Reliance Energy Limited's Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) division has bagged two major contracts totaling over Rupees 4200 crore. Together with these projects Reliance emerges as the largest EPC contractor in power sector in the country. Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (HPGC) awarded the contract on the basis of a competitive bidding to Reliance Energy for setting up 2x600 MW coal based power project on turnkey basis at a cost of Rs.3763 crore making it the single largest EPC contract. The project is to be implemented in 35 & 38 months schedule for the first and second units contractually. The effort would be to commission the two units with 34 and 36 months schedule on best effort basis. Reliance Energy has emerged as the lowest bidder in a stiffly contested competitive bidding process for the project, which is proposed to be financed with debt: equity ratio of 80:20, with 20 percent of cost to be contributed by the state government. This is the first project in the Northern region to be awarded the Mega project status under Union Government's 'Mega' project policy. The project is expected to result in a drastic reduction in cost of generation. Once the project starts generating additional 288 lakh units would be available to the state. It would cater to additional 4.4 lakh consumers, which constitute 11 per cent of the existing consumers. Government has already acquired 989 acres of land in Barwala / Hissar for the project which is located about 220 kms from Delhi. 2 x 250 MW Parichha - Units 5 and 6 In another significant development Reliance Energy has also bagged the " Balance of Plant package" for 2x250 MW from UPRVUN (Uttar Pradesh Vajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam) for Parichha extn units 5& 6, which has been awarded to REL on January 29, 2007 on a competitive bidding basis. Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) is expanding the existing Parichha Thermal Power Station, near Jhansi, by installing additional two units of 250 MW each. The value of the order is Rs.395 crores. UPRVUNL has earlier awarded the work Main Plant consisting of Boiler Turbo-Generator and civil works for the BTG on negotiated basis to BHEL. The Balance of Plant work has to be executed by REL on a very tight time schedule of 24 months from zero date. Balance of Plant work includes Water system, Fire Protection system, Coal Handling System extension, Ash Handling System, Elevators, Air Conditioning and Ventilation, Hydrogen Generation Plant, Other Mechanical Auxiliaries, Electrical Systems, Plant Control and Instrument System and related Civil works. Nine parties had applied for pre-qualification for BOP works and only REL and ALSTOM were finally qualified. The work will be executed by REL on a fast track basis within 24 months to enable timely completion of the units which will go long way to meet the power demand of Uttar Pradesh.
